Hi guys welcome to a hey math group in this video we're going to learn how to build a cash flow from the operating activities by using the indirect method let's do it first of all what is a cash flow statement well the cash flow statement helps managers track cash as it comes in and out of the business the classroom steaming will have three sections the first one is the operating activities this section just deals with daily operations then you have their financing activities which just deals with the issuing of stock paying dividends, and basically we have the investing activities buying or selling assets the cash flow statement basically just says look if you have a business, and you generate money not only from sales what else is the business like you know what else is the cash coming from let's say that you're building, and you have a lemon Stan well bill is going to be making money from his cells, but maybe he has dividends maybe you know he also sells like some machines to make lemons, so basically this is what the cash flow is going to reflect the cash flow statement is going to tell us where the money is coming from because no necessarily the money will come from sales is going to come from other stuff and money will go away from all the know other sources so let's go ahead and build a cash flow provided by their operating activities by using the indirect method now the only information I have so far is that the net income for the lemons tan is $600 and the depreciation expense is just $20 these are the balance sheets for the lemons 10 I don't worry too much about the cash I need to worry about the changes on the following items so let's go ahead and do it accounts receivables in 2013 I had $80 in 2014 I had 120 dollars well look at this you actually have and increase on accounts receivables well I guess receivables is when you actually sell the lemons, but you don't have that cash in your hands because they're going to be paying you later, so that means that I have 40 dollars that people owe me, but I don't have them in my hand, so that means that when the accounts receivables increase I will actually subtract $40 let's do the inventory is it operates the following way in 2013 I had $180 on lemons but now in 2014 I have less inventory that is actually good you sold some lemons your inventory went from 180 to 110 your inventory decreases that means that you made some cash because you saw those lemons, so you have to add prepay expenses let's remember prepay expenses are things like prepay rent PRE insurance so in 2013 you had $40 and in 2014 I'm sorry 2013 you had $40 2014 you had $60 well anytime your prepaid expenses go up you actually have to subtract $20 because look you're making a prepayment payment, so it's an expense you don't have that money in your pocket let's talk about the crew expenses payable these are expenses incurred that they have not yet bid pay so let's say that you bought some lemons I don't know at your local...
